| In Norway there isn't an official avalanche service like you find in many countries in the European Alps and in North America. The Norwegian Geotechnical Institute (NGI) is the country's leading centre of expertise for avalanches. |

| This winter NGI in cooperation with local councils in Northern Norway will operate a general avalanche service, although this will not be specific for mountaineers. We intend to develop these pages to include information about snow, avalanche awareness, and avalanche and skiing conditions in our mountain area. Check back regularly! |
