He spent 3 months working as safety officer for the logistic team transporting cargo and fuel from the coast 280km inland to the Norwegain base Troll. One section of the traverse known as the grounding line is very heavily crevassed and a number of safety measures are taken to reduce the risk of breaking through snow bridges whilst transporting heavy cargo.

The team spent two weeks reconnoitring the grounding line using ground penetrating radar to identify crevasses and visually inspecting them to find the safest crossing points.
